The #9 (2A) Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys wrestling team will embark on their quest for a team state title at Saturday’s State Dual Team Tournament at Xtream Arena. The duals will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
The Cowboys (23-6) are coming off Tuesday’s regional dual title, where they defeated Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Humboldt to advance.
“We’re a tough team,” Head Coach Dillon Anderson says. “We’re battle-tested. We have fought through the Battle of Waterloo and faced really good competition. We faced good competition all year. Our six losses this year are to teams that are incredible. I mean, four teams in 3A, the number one team in 2A in Algona. We’ve beat the #2 team already. And then Humboldt earlier in the season when, they were very, very good and they had their lineup where they wanted. Now they had a few maneuvers that made them not as good. Hopefully we can show that we’re not only just state qualifiers and dual qualifiers, but we can place really high at state as a team as well.”
They’ll take on #4 (2A) Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the quarterfinal, which defeated Ballard to advance. The Warriors are undefeated in duals, entering 18-0. Both teams have six individually ranked wrestlers.
Each team will wrestle three duals, with placement matches for first, third, fifth and seventh to conclude the day. The Cowboys will get underway at 10:45 a.m., with coverage beginning at 10:30.
