The North Butler-Clarksville boys wrestling team took down a first place finish with 176.5 points and AGWSR placed fourth with 92.5 points as part of a round robin tournament hosted by the Cougars on Saturday to conclude the regular season.
It was NBC’s first tournament title this season. NBC had a top three finisher in 11 of the 13 contested weights. The Wolves had five wrestlers stand atop the podium, including Carl Shew at 113 (fall and tech fall), Maddox Morrison at 132 (two falls), Jaxson Miller at 138 (three falls and decision), Jack Bartels at 144 (fall and major decision) and Evan McCormick at 150 (two falls and two major decision). Five Wolves finished in second place, including Weston Miller at 120, Cain Nielsen at 126, Ryland Pitzenberger at 165, McCabe Gansen at 215 and Brayden Harms at 285. Aiden Doty placed third at 106, to round out the top three placers.
AGWSR had eight wrestlers secure top three placings in final home action of the year. Brady Abbas was first at 120 (fall and decision). Two Cougars were second including Kealain Urban at 106 (two falls) and Clayton Van Loh at 190 (three falls and decision). Five Cougars closed out the day in third place including Sam Mausser at 113, Wyatt Engelkes at 120, Jariyah Bowles at 138, Karder Brekunitch at 157 and Kael Dodd at 165.
North Butler-Clarksville will enter the postseason at the Class 2A District 5 state qualifying tournament at Clear Lake. AGWSR will be at the Class 1A District 9 state qualifying tournament at South Hamilton. Both tournaments will be on Saturday, February 15.
