Clarksville Basketball to Host Sumner-Fredricksburg in Regular Season Finale on Tuesday

The Clarksville girls and boys basketball teams will conclude the regular season with part two of a back to back as they host Sumner-Fredricksburg, from the NICL-East on Tuesday. The Cougars swept last year’s meeting, as the girls won 70-50 and the boys won 79-41. 

The Clarksville boys (5-16) ended a four game slide, with a 61-54 win over Saint Ansgar at home on Monday. Senior Sam Hoodjer entered the week as the program’s single season scoring record holder with 446 points. Hoodjer is averaging 22 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. John Stauffer has also helped boost offense with 13.7 points per game.

“Sumner-Fredericksburg, I have a lot of respect for their coach. I got to compete against him in high school. What I can tell you about Sumner-Fredericksburg, is their kids are going to be fundamentally sound. They’re going to be physical like football players. They’re going to be disciplined on the defensive end and athletic,” says Woodward. “It’s going to be a very great challenge for us. I think it’s the perfect opportunity for us to prepare for the postseason as well.”

The Sumner-Fredricksburg boys (11-9) have won two games in a row including a 55-42 win over AGWSR on Friday. The ball doesn’t rest when the Cougars are on offense, with 14 assists per game. Tatum Nuss leads with 15.5 points per game. 

The Clarksville girls (12-9) lost an overtime thriller 60-58 to #15 (1A) Saint Ansgar at home on Monday. The Clarksville defense leaves opponent offenses empty handed with 14.7 steals per game. Paige Kampman remains on a roll with 21.6 points per game, Hannah Wangsness is the team’s top rebounder with 12 per game.

The Sumner-Fredricksburg girls (7-13) have won two straight games including a 39-36 win over AGWSR on Friday. Have put together above season average scoring in win streak, with over 37.8 points in each game. Saela Steege leads with 8.4 points per game. 

Action begins at 6:15 p.m. in Clarksville.
