Grundy Center Elementary students welcomed community members, parents, and local business representatives for a Leader In Me breakfast and presentation Tuesday.
Principal Brian Sammons it’s a locally administered program that allows students to grow in the areas of leadership, academics and culture.
“When we look at those three things, we figure out how we can level it up,” Sammons says. “How can we get just a little bit better than we were yesterday? The Leader in Me program, we are supported through Leader Valley, which is very helpful for us, it’s a Cedar Valley based organization. So all of our training and all of our support comes directly from about 20 miles away, which is absolutely fantastic for us.”
Students gave a presentation, including a focus on being proactive in their leadership. They performed skits to demonstrate what they’ve learned through the program, and gave visitors tours of the building. Sammons on the importance of this program being part of the overall educational experience at Grundy Center Elementary.
“Today really is a shining moment for our kids, just to give our community a little tiny example of what these kids do every single day here at school. And the comments, I was walking down the hallway taking pictures of the tours, and the comments that I hear from people, they’re just so happy and so excited that we’re really pushing kids to be leaders, not just of the school, but leaders of our community.”
