The #15 (2A) West Fork girls basketball team claimed the Top of Iowa Conference East crown outright with a 55-34 win at Central Springs for their sixth straight win to conclude the regular season. The West Fork boys bounced back from a tough loss on Monday with a 60-52 win over Central Springs to complete the season series sweep on Tuesday.
In the girls game, Central Springs led 16-6 a minute into the second quarter. West Fork turned things around in a hurry by establishing pressure and transition game. West Fork took their first lead at 18-17 with 3:02 left in the quarter, as part of a 19-3 run that put the Warhawks up 27-15 at the half. The Warhawks led by as many as 21 in the second half, by holding the Panthers to single digits and putting up 30 points of their own.
Leah Weaver had 17 points and Karma McMorris added 13 points for the Warhawks.
In the boys game, West Fork led 17-8 after the first quarter. The Warhawks extended their lead to double figures with an 18-10 run in the second quarter, to take a 35-18 lead at the half. The Warhawks had their best offensive quarter of the night with 21 points in the third, behind transition passing and extra effort on the boards to go up 56-32. The Panthers outscored the Warhawks 20-4 in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to single digits, but West Fork held off the complete comeback for the road win.
Ashyr Wiseman had 25 points including four triples and Xavier Haller added 20 points for the Warhawks.
The West Fork boys (10-10, 7-7 TIC-East) will host Forest City in their regular season finale on Thursday. The West Fork girls (18-3, 13-1 TIC-East) will host Belmond-Klemme or Central Springs in their Class 2A regional opener on February 18.
