The AGWSR boys basketball team will look to carry over the momentum of their first playoff win since 2021 on Friday into a Class 1A District 4 first round matchup at #5 (1A) Saint Edmond on Monday on 99 The Wave. This will be the first ever meeting between the programs in the Bound Era.

AGWSR (4-18) opened their 1A postseason run with a 68-31 win at home over South Hamilton in the preliminary round on Friday. The Cougars win over the Hawks was their best all-around game this season, with their highest scoring total and the fewest points allowed to an opponent. Bo Starr leads the team with 13 points per game and Chayton Smith has been a force on the boards with 7.8 rebounds per game.

Cougars Head Coach Ryley Schipper on at least one more game for the seniors and entering the matchup as an opportunity.

“Really happy for them that we were able to get one more win and give them one more opportunity to play. They deserve it, they show up every day and are ready to go, I really appreciate that coming from those two,” says Schipper. “Every night’s an opportunity. You never know who may overlook you and what you might bring. We’re going to go bring our best. I think we’re battle tested in one of the toughest conferences in probably the state. We’ve played some really, really good teams and we’ve played with some really, really good teams tough for two quarters, two and a half quarters at a time. We’ll be ready to go. We’ll bring what we can and hopefully that amounts to a win for us.”

St.Edmond (18-3) won 68-38 over Webster City in their regular season finale on Tuesday, February 11. The ball does not rest when the Gaels are on offense, as they average 15 assists per game. Hunter Horn has played lights out with 24 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.

Coverage on 99 The Wave begins at 6:40 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7:00 p.m. in Fort Dodge.
