The Iowa Falls-Alden boys basketball team will begin the playoffs Monday by hosting Eagle Grove in a 2A District 4 First Round game, which’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Cadets, coming off an 8-12 season, will look to snap a three-game losing streak. However, Head Coach Mike Holm says the regular season featured several physical mismatches for his team, and looks forward to seeing teams outside the North Central Conference.

“The top of our conference is really strong this year,” Holm says. “St. Ed’s is highly ranked in Class 1A, really good solid ball team. Humboldt, another one, I think they finished third in the conference, really solid, and if you catch them on a night where they’re shooting well, they’re really, really good. Clear Lake being the top of the conference, number one team in the state, I’ve been in the conference a long time and I think they might be one of the best teams I’ve ever seen in our conference. So it’s been a tough go for us, but like I said, I think that’s building us towards our tournament run here when we get some teams that are more like us record-wise and size-wise, so we’re hoping that’s a good sign.”

Kale Kalous led the team with 21 points per game in the regular season, and the team has an opportunity to ride his offense to postseason success.

Eagle Grove went 9-12 in the regular season, and won three of its last four games against the Top of Iowa-West. Three players average in double figure scoring, led by Abraham Lin’s 17.5 points per game.

“I think this is a pretty good matchup for us. I think both teams are very similar, record-wise, size-wise. I think it’s gonna be a very up and down game. I think it’s gonna be a good matchup for us. It’ll be a good test, but it’s one that we can certainly go out and win if we play well.”

Coverage will start at 6:40 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 7:00.
