Bulldogs Head Coach Patrick Hansen on supporting wrestlers on the podium and left behind.

“We wrestled great, it’s weddings and funerals. There’s some kids that are so happy and some kids that are just devastated. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out for you and I feel so terrible, but that’s life. It was meant to go this way, but it still hurts. Then the other six guys I wanna go hug because I’m so happy,” says Hansen. “A District title, that doesn’t happen every year. We won two in a row now. Another banner to hang in the gym. They got plenty of them up here in Clear Lake. This is just a reflection of our kids, our community, things we do, the time we put in and the effort.”

Iowa Falls-Alden’s state qualifiers include Kolbe Hansen at 113 (1st), who won by a 6-3 decision in the championship match. Trevor Bailey at 215 (1st) won by a 13-5 major decision in the championship match. Keaton Mulford at 150 (2nd) had a loss by 14-5 major decision in the championship match and a 3-2 decision for true second place. Trayvahn Williams at 285 (2nd) had a major decision and a fall, before a loss by fall (2:00) in the championship match.

Cadets Head Coach Scott Patton on the Cadets four state qualifiers.

“We came into today thinking we had a pretty good shot to get three guys through, anything more than that was a little icing on the cake. The three guys that we kind of expected to make it through, made it through, and then Trevon Williams making it at heavyweight, just kind of sealed the deal for us. Overall, I think we wrestled great today, top to bottom in our lineup. Very happy with our performance,” says Patton. “You always look back at it, and see different matches maybe we could have won or a placed a little higher here and there. That’s probably the case today too, once I sit down and look at everything. Overall, very pleased with our performance and for those guys that finished out their season on a high note.”

North Butler-Clarksville’s state qualifiers include Carl Shew at 113 (2nd) who had a loss by 6-3 decision in championship match and a win by fall (4:35) for true second place. Jaxson Miller at 138 (2nd) had a loss by fall in the championship match and a win by fall for true second place.

Wolves Head Coach Adam Holm on performance of the team at first 2A district tournament.

“Excited about the two we are taking down. The one’s a senior, one’s a sophomore. The senior has put a lot of work in this year and he did what he had to do. We didn’t get what we wanted in the first place matches but we came back and made sure we got that second place win,” says Holm. “I’m proud of the team and our coaches. We jumped up from 1A to 2A and I thought we competed for the most part. We did at some of the weights and really happy with our performance today. I couldn’t have done it without my coaching staff.”

The IHSAA Traditional State Wrestling Tournament begins on Wednesday, February 19 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
