The West Fork boys basketball team will match up against Riceville for the first time since 2015, as the programs meet in the Class 1A District 3 first round on Monday. The Warhawks are 14-0 against the Wildcats in the Bound Era.
West Fork (10-11) concluded the regular season with a 62-38 loss to Top of Iowa Conference West Co-Champion Forest City on Thursday. Ashyr Wiseman with 15.5 points and Xavier Haller with 13 points per game help the Warhawks offense take flight.
Warhawks Head Coach Abe Maske on tracking down high percentage shots with ball movement and limiting unforced errors.
“Our shooting is really driven by how well we move the ball, which for us, it really does drive it. If we’re moving the ball, getting some good reversals and we’re getting to the shots that we want, we’re gonna hit those shots,” says Maske. “What gets us is when we start putting ourselves into unforced errors, turnovers, or shots that maybe are a little tougher than what we should be taking or a little quicker than we should. If we can avoid those, I feel good about where we’re at. Offensively, I feel good about where we’re at shooting the ball. We’re going to roll into postseason play shooting the ball extremely well and I feel good about it.”
The Warhawks average 12 assists per game.
Riceville (11-11) held on for a 67-63 win over BCLUW in Iowa Star Conference play to wrap up the regular season. The Wildcats have had success with applying pressure with 14.8 steals per game. Johnny Adams leads the team with 22 points and 4.8 assists per game.
Action begins at 6:00 p.m. in Riceville.
