The Meservey City Council recently met with Mitch Smith from the Mason City Fire Department to discuss the ambulance service.
There were between 14-20 calls with a Meservey address last year.
Smith says his department will gladly take a patient to Belmond or Clarion if they are stable, if someone is having cardiac arrest, stroke, or trauma, by law, they must take them to Mason City or Des Moines for the appropriate level of care, all is in the best interest of the patient.
Smith says he will have some conversations and/or training with his staff on the Mason City Fire Department to ensure patients’ wishes are taken into consideration.
