The Butler County Board of Supervisors this week met with the Executive Director of the Butler-Grundy Development Alliance Jeff Kolb, who discussed a childcare initiative.
Kolb says childcare facilities in the area have difficulties with attracting and retaining employees. A childcare task force was created, and it was determined that the average pay for childcare staff was very low, which has resulted in about 100 open spaces due to a lack of staffing.
Kolb says the goal is to increase wages by $2 an hour by fundraising through public and private employers.
A state grant program would also match a certain amount, and employers can complete a 3-year pledge to a Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa fund to administer the fund.
