The South Hardin girls basketball team will look for a major road win to extend their season in a Class 2A Region 4 semifinal at Pocahontas Area on Friday. It will be the first meeting between the programs since 2015.

South Hardin (10-13) advanced following their first win over AGWSR since 2015, 59-49 in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday. The Tigers forced 21 Cougar turnovers in the win. The Tigers interior play has led the offense, shooting at 34.4 percent from the field. Alli Sheldahl leads with 13.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Tigers Head Coach Nick Eller on all five on the floor contributing and bringing their best.

“We’ve got to have everybody scoring, it’s got to be pretty even like that. We can’t have one with 20 and everyone else with five. We had a lot of games like that this year where we’ve struggled too.  A great team effort. Everyone contributed. Everyone came to play. I thought it was one of the few times we’ve had, all five of our starters really clicking,” says Eller. “I think we can still play a lot better. We missed a lot of bunnies tonight. Missed some free throws. There’s tons of points to be left out there that we can still play pretty well with. They didn’t put their head down, didn’t throw the towel in and kept playing hard. I thought we’re playing our best basketball here at this point of the year and it showed tonight. That’s fun to see and I’m just proud of the girls for doing it.”

Pocahontas Area (18-5) advanced with a 61-34 win over Dike-New Hartford in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday. The Indians apply consistent pressure that produces 17.7 steals per game, which is the third most in all of Class 2A. Madison Vial leads with 14 points per game, shooting at 41.5 percent from the field.

Action begins at 7:00 p.m. in Pocahontas.
