House fire reported in Mason City

Just before 10am Friday, the Mason City Fire Department was called out on the report of black smoke coming from a house at the intersection of 15th Street Northwest and North President Avenue.  No injuries reported.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the house at 137 15th Street Northwest.

The fire was located in a kitchen wall behind the stove and was quickly put out.

The cause of the fire was accidental from an electric space heater in the crawl space used to keep water pipes from freezing.

Firefighters were on the scene for over two hours.
