The #11 (3A) Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team was unable to generate enough offense in Saturday’s 49-31 loss at #6 (3A) Estherville Lincoln Central in a Class 3A regional final, as aired on 99 The Wave.

The Midgets led 11-7 after the first eight minutes. The Bulldogs pulled to within 15-12 late in the second quarter but Estherville Lincoln Central scored the final four points of the first half to take a 19-12 lead at the break. The Midgets outscored the Bulldogs 30-19 in the second half to secure the victory and advances to the state tournament for the fourth straight season.

Bulldog Head Coach Miranda Stafford.

“Yeah, I mean they stepped up. They competed and you know the score isn’t obviously as close as what we felt it was. They went on, I would say outside of a six minute window of the game we played with them really, really well. They went on a couple runs there that expanded that a little bit. But the girls got them to miss shots. We took care of boards for the most part, put up a few. You know, we knew we were hoping to keep it in the 40’s. We held them to that, you know, to hold them to 19 in the first half is huge, a great, great effort.”

MacKenzy Valley led the Bulldogs with eight points. Jordan Valley, one of five seniors on the Bulldog roster this year, added seven points as Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s season comes to a close at 21-3. Estherville Lincoln Central is 20-3 and advances to the Class 3A state basketball tournament.
