Franklin Supervisors discuss a proposed wage step plan with the Franklin Sheriff

Today the Franklin County Board of Supervisors met with Sheriff Aaron Dodd to review a proposed wage step plan for the sheriff deputies.

Supervisor Dick Lukensmeyer questioned Dodd about how much overtime has been accumulated, but Dodd says it’s the cost of doing business.

“Josh is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. this afternoon and I’ve got him working at 7 a.m. to haul prisoners if he would work straight through, because that’s all I’ve got. And I’ve got Sam hauling another prisoner from Forest City just back from duty, you know, so it’s like, we’re just stretched thin when it comes to shuffling prisoners around, like that’s what they’re both doing, and like, call comes in right now, I’m running out the door, like I’m the only one working. That’s just the nature of where we’re at, so if you pick up a call on a Saturday afternoon, like even this weekend, a sexual assault call. That comes in at 3 PM. You just call your family and say, sorry, I’m here until 1 AM. You know, it’s just when this is done.

Dodd says he will continue to keep an eye on overtime, but that’s the way it is right now.

“Unfair to pass that off to the next person. Notice that with the police department too, they are one person, one person, one person, and then we’re doing the same thing. We have a little overlap during the middle of the week where we’ll have, you know, one shift is carrying over with the other and that helps tremendously to alleviate overtime. But if I have one person go down, like we’ve had that the last three months, one person was out with a illness and an injury, then it just blows the top out of the overtime.”

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors is expected to act on the wage step plan next week.

In addition, due to technical issues that were unable to be resolved, there was no YouTube broadcast or recording of the meeting.  The county auditor will be working with the county I-T director to rectify this situation.
