Founding director of the MacNider Art Museum dies

The founding director of the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City has died.

In 1965, Richard Leet became the first director of the MacNider Art Museum, and retired in September of 2001.

His artwork was exhibited in numerous museums or venues, especially across Iowa with his last exhibit at the Clear Lake Arts Center in January of 2022.

The 88-year-old Leet died Sunday at the Heritage Care Center in Mason City.

Services are currently pending through the Major Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City.
