A 59-year-old Iowa Falls woman was charged in early January with one count of child endangerment.
The state alleges Penny Caruth, who has been a daycare provider, struck a child multiple times with a paddle.
According to the criminal complaint, the child was struck five times, and cried out in pain after each hit.
Caruth filed a written plea of not guilty last week, and waived her right to a speedy trial.
Her jury trial has been set for May 1st at 9am. If convicted, she faces up to 5-years in prison.
