Bearcat Boys Basketball heading into offseason with development in mind

The North Butler boys basketball team has entered the offseason, having been defeated in Thursday’s district semifinal at #4 (1A) St. Edmond.

In Head Coach Austin Guerrero’s second season at the helm, it was an improvement from last season’s first round exit.

“It’s not super often yet that we’ve become accustomed to getting the second, third round of postseason,” Guerrero says. “So for us, it was cherishing the memory and moment that we did build and get into that second round and getting to play a high quality team like St. Edmond. And then now it’s just talking to them about how that should be the expectation moving forward, putting time in the offseason and getting your skill set to where you’re confident in it. And you can compete with these type of teams. So the message was proud of the guys, but time to reflect and where we can get better and start the work as early as possible. And that way we can come forward, continue to grow as a team and continue to try to build the the chemistry and the program that I’m trying to build with these boys.”

The Bearcats will lose two of their top three scorers to graduation, but are expected to return three regular starters and several others who gained valuable varsity minutes. The team finished 8-15 and 5-9 in the Top of Iowa-East.
