The Iowa River Players Community Theater in Rowan is hosting a Mardi Gras celebration concert Saturday.

Money raised from the event will go toward repairs to the roof at the theater. Luanne Krabbe is with the Iowa River Players Community Theater and tells RadioOnTheGo News what people can expect on Saturday.

“Well, I did a little research, and so we’re going to try to have as much of the flavor of Mardi Gras. I’m going to make a king cake. That’s the cake that the person who gets the slice that has a little toy in it, or maybe a coin, they get to be the king that night of Mardi Gras, and they also have to make the king cake next year. So there are some nice down-home customs that they do, and I just know those people know how to have fun. So we’re going to try to do that same thing.”

Local musicians Rob Arnold, Mark Havens, Caleb Avery, Terri Avery and Brad Revland will perform Saturday as part of the Marti Gras concert.

The event starts with a social hour at 6:30 p.m. with the concert at 7:30. A free-will offering admission will be taken. For more information, you can visit the Iowa River Players Community Theater Facebook page.
