The Dike-New Hartford girls basketball team has concluded its season, which could be classified as a rebuild.
The Wolverines had to replace three starters and the vast majority of production from the 2023-2024 championship-winning season and went 9-15. But Head Coach Matt Dove says there were moments where the team showed growth.
“We just had such a fun group that wanted to come to work every day and get better,” Dove says. “It would have been really easy at times for them to kind of hold their heads and feel sorry for themselves, and not once did we ever see any of that or hear any complaints or anything like that. I think being able to play our schedule that we played and see the improvement against some of the better teams that we would play, was really rewarding for me personally. Being able to beat Hudson, that was really fun to see. Their excitement after a game like that when you do put an almost complete ball game together and things kind of go your way down the stretch a little bit. But overall, I would say just a really good group of kids to be around, six great seniors.”
The senior class included Izzy Norton, Sophia Bennett, Madde Buskohl, Silvey Fuller, Joy Eilderts and Shannon Moorman.
Among next season’s expected returners, sophomore Payton Foster led the team with 11 points per game.
