Hampton-Dumont-CAL senior Charlee Morton signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Iowa State Women’s Track & Field program next school year.

A two-time champion in both shot put and discus at both the Class 3A state meet and Drake Relays, Morton says her track & field career dates back to elementary school.

“I started in fourth grade doing shot put and discus,” Morton says. “I started with the Iowa Games and then USATF track meets. I do AAU track meets in the summer in USATF. So I really love track, but my goal as a little kid was to go play a sport in college. It wasn’t track at first, but to go play a sport like out of high school. And starting out, I did not think I was going to be as good as I am. The biggest thing for me is just hard work. Like, I’m just so glad I put in all those extra hours, even though it was tough at the time. Just all that hard work, it truly does pay off.”

Morton says she’s always had a goal to compete in college sports, and doing so as a Cyclone was the ultimate dream.

“I wanted to look at Iowa State because I’m a Cyclone fan, but I wanted to keep my options open. So I visited some other schools in the state and in the Midwest, and I kind of always knew deep down that it would be Iowa State, and just having that gut feeling, I knew I wanted to go there.”

Morton and the rest of the Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls track & field team will begin their indoor season at Tuesday’s A.D. Dickinson Relays inside the UNI-Dome.
