The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team concluded their season at 8-15 overall.
The Cowboys had their share of single-digit games, with five wins by singles digits and nine losses by single digits.
Head Coach Jason Berning on playing in multiple competitive games and a highlight comeback win.
“Their were so many close games and they were all very similar. It came down to fourth quarter, last couple of minutes. We played numerous games that were like that,” says Berning. “You look back at the Hampton-Dumont game at home, we trailed for most of the game, but then we caught fire in the fourth quarter and came back from a double digit deficit there. Their was just moments like that all season long. I just thought it showed what our team was capable of.”
The Cowboys will graduate six seniors and are projected to return 10 players next season. Among returners are this year’s top three producers, including Chaz Lane with 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, Johnny Lomeli with 9.1 points per game and Huxley Lingenfelter with 9.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Berning on attention areas this summer to take the next step as a team.
“We need to shoot the ball better and have guys that can shoot it from the perimeter. We need more. I think that’s number one. Then number two, getting used to each other on the floor again. We’re gonna have a lot of guys back next year. The more time we can get on the floor, get comfortable with what we’re trying to accomplish, I think will be a big thing this summer. We need to continue hammering fundamentals, you can never get enough of that. I think the summer is big for us. Time on the floor together, fundamentals and shooting, that’s really what we’re gonna be hammering home this summer.”
They concluded their season with a first round district playoff loss at Belmond-Klemme.
