Alert Iowa is the State of Iowa’s official emergency notification system. Through Alert Iowa, state and local officials are able to utilize a single, statewide notification system that provides local control of how and when to disseminate emergency and public safety messages to residents.
With strong to severe thunderstorms in the forecast for Friday, Franklin County Emergency Management Coordinator Joel McWilliams tells RadioOnTheGo News now would be a good time to sign up for Alert Iowa.
“I talk about this every time I talk with you, but it is a good thing. There’s several ways people can sign up. They can text FRANKLINIA to 77295. They can visit franklincountyia.gov or they can also download the Smart 911 app on their smart devices.”
McWilliams says it is also important to be prepared for spring and summer storms, by having plenty of batteries on hand, flashlights, and a portable radio.
