Wednesday is a day that officials say only travel in an emergency, otherwise, you should make alternate plans.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Brooke Hagenhoff in Des Moines tells RadioOnTheGo News that even if a small amount of snow falls, the strong winds could still cause a blizzard.
“I think really the important thing is if you’re in an area that’s going to be receiving the snow with the wind, you’ve got those blizzard conditions likely, really just reconsider going out. It’s going to be extremely dangerous for anyone caught outside in these conditions. The whiteout conditions in blizzards can be very disorienting and dangerous with getting cars stranded on roadways. If you’re at all able to reconsider travel in those blizzard areas, I would highly encourage that.”
More precipitation may fall this weekend in the broadcast area.
