The Iowa Falls-Alden girls wrestling team has concluded its third season as a program in the third season of the sport being sanctioned.
Freshman Rylee Robison qualified for the Class 1A state tournament at 235 pounds. Head Coach Eric Hoffman on the accomplishment.
“It was awesome for Rylee to be able to do that,” Hoffman says. “Really was wrestling really well at the end of the year. She just kept improving throughout the year. Works hard, very smart wrestler, does everything you would want an athlete to do and it paid off for her. And so it was a great experience and hopefully she’s holding on that in the future years.”
Robison went 12-15 and bowed out of the tournament in the first consolation round.
For the first time, the team competed in dual meets, going 5-9.
“What comes to mind for me is some of the firsts, first ever North Central Conference Tournament. We were lucky enough to host that in Iowa Falls. It was a great event. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any champions, so we’re looking to get to the top of the podium at some weights next year, but that was awesome. This was our first year we’ve ever had a dual meet. We had a good 10 to 12 dual meets this year. We won a good handful of those, which was really fun. They bring a whole different atmosphere to the sport. They’re a lot of fun for the team. So that was awesome this year.”
Junior Brooklyn Gehling went 15-12 at 130 to lead the team in wins. Kynnedy Gunderson went 13-9 as the only senior to depart the program.
