This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa.
Each day a different topic will be covered by the National Weather Service in an effort to educate the public.
The topic for Thursday will be hail and wind safety.
This is Franklin County Emergency Management Coordinator Joel McWilliams.
“Seems like we’ve had a lot of wind here lately. The last year or two, a lot of higher winds, 60 mile an hour, sometimes more. I think this last one, we were up to 70 miles an hour was the prediction on that. Hail yeah, the main thing is your safety obviously, but get everything moved inside if you can and take cover.”
Friday’s topic is flood safety.
“Probably the biggest thing with flood safety around here is just making sure that you’re not driving through it. There was some roads that were washed out and you know you can’t tell what’s underneath the water so the biggest thing I would say with that around here is just making sure you’re not driving through it.”
Remember, “turn around, don’t drown”.
