Local girls track & field teams will compete at Thursday’s North Iowa Indoor Championships hosted by Clear Lake. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Iowa Falls-Alden will attend.

Coming off a 13th place finish at last week’s Wartburg High School Invitational, the Bulldogs will look to build upon some impressive performances. Highlights included Charlee Morton winning the shot put with a program-record 44-08.75. MacKenzy Valley placed fourth in the 3000, Lily Hambly was eighth in the high jump and the 4×400 relay placed fifth.

“That’s a really fun one,” Hampton-Dumont-CAL coach Nikki Donnenwerth says. “They’ve built that up to really get people excited about track and field. They do some fun things like the podium for the top three in each of those events, and they really publicize that well. So we’re really excited to get out there and just do some things that draw some attention to track and field. It’s just another chance for us to get a stopwatch on these girls and figure out where they’re going to succeed the most. So super excited. Then Roland-Story is our first outdoor meet, and once those outdoor meets start, they just keep rolling and before we know it, it’s May. So yeah, we’re excited to get going. We still feel like we haven’t practiced that much, but gosh, it’s here and we’re ready to go.”

Iowa Falls-Alden will be back in action for the first time since the IATC Indoor Championships, where Isabelle Janssen placed third in the 60m hurdles and Alivia Tupper placed fourth in the shot put. Her toss of 38-01.50 is currently the 14th-best in Iowa and sixth-best in Class 2A.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was last in action at the A.D. Dickinson Relays, where MaKayla Beisel was the only top-10 finisher by placing fifth in the high jump.

The meet will start at 4:00 p.m.
