Thursday, Bill Holmstrom was appointed by the Hampton City Council to fill the vacant Ward 3 seat. The seat was vacated last month following the resignation of Kevin Blanford.
Holmstrom was appointed on a 3-2 vote with councilmembers Barry Lamos, Jim Davies and Bill Hodge casting yes votes. Councilmembers Jerre Grefe and Pat Palmer voted no on the appointment.
Holmstrom is retired after 50 years in the work force, which included time in the Air Force and the postal service, where he served many communities including Postmaster positions in the communities of Farnhamville, Greenfield, Atlantic, Hampton, Sheffield, Rockwell, Swaledale and Thornton. Holmstrom tells RadioOnTheGo news why he decided to run for the vacant seat.
“Well, Councilman Davies had an article in the newspaper concerning the vacancy for Ward 3, and he asked for people to step up and as I said, I’ve lived in the community for over 25 years, and I’ve taken advantage of all the opportunities that’s been given to me. And I’m getting up there in age, and I think it’s past time for me to have stepped up, and I didn’t want this one to pass me by.”
Holmstrom will be one of four Hampton City Councilmembers up for reelection this November.
