
The Hampton-Dumont-CAL soccer teams split a North Central Conference doubleheader at Clear Lake Monday. The girls lost 8-1 and the boys won 3-2.
In the girls game, the Lions jumped out to a hot start by scoring the first four goals. With 9:08 left in the first half, Brissa Rojas connected on a long goal to get on the board. But Clear Lake scored four more in the second half to put the game out of reach. The Bulldogs are now 0-1.
In the boys game, Clear Lake struck first with a goal midway through the first half. With 13:28 left in the first half, Gabriel Munguia hit a deep free kick to tie the game at 1-1. Clear Lake broke the tie to take a 2-1 lead with 19:51 left in the second half. But Brandon Garcia scored on a one-timer a few minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. In the closing stages, Hunter Rieken punched in a deep shot to take a 3-2 lead, and the Bulldogs hung on for the win. The 1-0 Bulldogs will return to action Thursday by hosting Iowa Falls-Alden as part of a doubleheader that’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.
The Bulldog tennis teams will begin their seasons by taking on Clear Lake Tuesday. The girls will travel to Clear Lake and the boys will host. Both meets will start at 4:30.
In other action, the girls golf team will take part in a best ball scrimmage at AGWSR at 4:15.
