The Aplington-Parkersburg and AP/DNH soccer teams earned a sweep at Clear Lake to begin their seasons Tuesday. The girls won 2-0 and the boys won 4-1.
In the girls game, the Falcons got on the board when Addison Hook rolled in a short goal with 7:11 until halftime. After a long scoring drought, the Falcons added some cushion when Elise Thome connected on a long shot that grazed the goalkeeper before bouncing to the net with 3:11 left in regulation, moving the Falcons to 1-0.
In the boys game, the United got underway in style. Antuan Deering connected on a 10-yard header shot off a throw-in to get on the board with 36:45 left in the first half. Clear Lake answered with a goal a few minutes later, but the United took the lead back on a line drive shot by Mason Bertram with 25 minutes left in the first half. With just under 20 minutes left in the first half, Aiden Merrill scored on a long shot from near the sideline to go in front 3-1, which was the halftime score. With 7:31 left in regulation, Ty Luhring put the game out of reach with a long goal to complete the scoring, moving AP/DNH to 1-0.
Both teams will be back in action Thursday against GC-GR. The boys will play in Aplington and the girls will play in Reinbeck.
