The Hampton-Dumont-CAL soccer teams will play their home openers when they host Iowa Falls-Alden for a North Central Conference doubleheader Thursday, which will air on 104.9 KLMJ.

Coming off an 8-1 loss at Clear Lake Monday, the Bulldog girls will go for a bounce back. Head Coach Ben Schlachter says contributions by sophomore goalkeeper Madison Heilskov and the other goalkeeping staff will be a key to success.

“For a freshman coming in last year, never having played goal with a 71%, as many shots got taken against us, that’s pretty impressive,” Schlachter says. “It just speaks to her athleticism and her will to put in the work. We’re going to kind of try and give her a little bit of a break. We have a freshman coming in, Brissa Rojas. She and Madison have kind of the same skill sets. They’re both real good athletes. So we’re going to try and spell her a little more this year and try and use her in some other areas too. But yeah, she’s going to man that goal for the most part, but we’re going to try and spell her a little bit more this year.”

Heilskov recorded 176 saves on a 70.7 percentage last year.

The Bulldog boys will look to win their fourth straight in the series against the Cadets, entering 1-0 after Monday’s 3-2 win at Clear Lake. It’ll be the season opener for both Cadet teams. The doubleheader will start at 5:30 p.m. with pregame coverage at 5:20.

After a postponement on Tuesday, the boys tennis team will host St. Edmond to begin their season at 4:30. The girls will play a non-conference dual at Charles City at 4:15.
