The Wright County boys and girls soccer teams will open a three match week with a road trip to Hampton-Dumont-CAL for a doubleheader on Monday on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Wright County boys (1-1-1) during opening week fell 5-1 to Ballard, had a 2-2 tie against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and won 3-2 over Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday. Goalkeeper Jose Alfaro has 26 saves and has allowed nine goals.

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys (2-0) last week won 3-2 at Clear Lake and won 6-0 at home over rival Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday.

Head Coach Danielle Arana on matching Wright County’s physicality.

“We know that there’s a little bit of rivalry there and it gets a little bit more physical. We’ll work on playing smart, playing off of the physicality that we know that we’re gonna come to and being able to work together,” says Arana. “At the end of the day you can’t always beat the pass. So hopefully we can just play around that, not get into it and have a good game.”

Fernando Mota has three goals to lead the Bulldogs. Goalkeeper Jose Aragon-Mendez has 24 saves and has only allowed two goals.

The Wright County girls (0-1) fell in their season opener 10-2 at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on Thursday. They have won three straight matches against the Bulldogs.

Head Coach Miriam Meinke on navigating a three match week.

“One thing that we have is that with three schools joining, we do have a higher number of athletes joining our soccer program. Right now we have 27 girls out for soccer,” says Meinke. “We know that we can move and shift players around to fill the spots that are needed. We do have a stronger group of girls. We’re making sure that at practice everybody will get to practice at least two or three different positions, so they are prepared to be shifted into different areas to cover.”

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls (0-2) last week fell to Clear Lake 8-1 and Iowa Falls-Alden 10-0 on Thursday.

Pregame coverage on 104.9 KLMJ begins at 5:20 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 5:30 p.m. in Hampton.
