The Dike-New Hartford girls tennis team began its season with a dominant win at Independence Monday. The Wolverines won 9-0 to leave no doubt. The 1-0 Wolverines will return to action Tuesday, April 15 at Aplington-Parkersburg.
The #8 (1A) girls soccer team defeated Columbus Catholic 8-1 at home. The Wolverines piled on seven goals in the first half, including a span of three in three minutes. Gentry Swarts led with a hat trick, Lucy Varney and Ruby Varney each scored twice, and Rylee Reicks added one. At 3-0, they’ll be back in action Thursday by hosting #1 (1A) Denver.
The Wolverine track & field teams will return to action. The boys will be at a coed meet at South Tama for their third outdoor meet of the season. Head Coach Will Reingardt says they’re working on solidifying lineups with several underclassmen being involved.
“It’s awesome winning, been there as well with that,” Reingardt says. “But also your mindset is trying to prepare a team and figure out life in general of where these kids belong and where they could help the team the best, and where individually they’ll find success as well. So playing around with the roster last Thursday and Friday was nice heading into this week. To be real with you, it’s not always often that you do have that first week of outdoor anyway. So it was kind of nice to get some marks and times on the kids last week. So we saw a lot of great things out of our upperclassmen and our underclassmen to help kind of move forward into this week and see what happens.”
The meet will start at 4:30.
The girls track & field team is coming off a fifth place finish at Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, and will be at a girls meet at Jesup. It’ll start at 4:15.
