The Iowa Falls-Alden soccer teams split with Humboldt Monday. The girls won 3-1 at home and the boys fell 5-1 on the road.
In the girls game, Grace Hartford scored an early goal, but the Wildcats quickly answered. It was 1-1 at halftime. 12 minutes into the second half, Adessa Gillespie found an empty goal to break the tie, and they led the rest of the game. With 13 minutes left, Kyli Koenigsfeld added some cushion with a goal to complete the scoring. The Cadets (2-0) will host Clear Lake Thursday.
In the boys game, the Cadets couldn’t get stops in a blowout loss. At 0-3, they’ll return to action Thursday at Clear Lake.
The girls tennis team fell to Nevada 7-2 at home. The wins were by Jordyn Carpenter at #1 singles and Alivia Hansen at #3 singles. They’ll be at Hampton-Dumont-CAL Tuesday at 4:30. The boys tennis team began its season with a 9-0 loss at Nevada. They’ll host Hampton-Dumont-CAL Tuesday at 4:30.
The track & field teams will be in action at separate locations. Coming off a third place finish at Ballard Thursday, the boys will go up against some of the better teams in the North Central and Top of Iowa Conferences at the Umstead Relays at Eagle Grove, according to Head Coach Dave Harms.
“We’ve been going there for a while, never won it there,” Harms says. “It’s probably the top teams in the conference at that meet, which makes it kind of difficult. So we’re hoping to go there and maybe get the best placing we’ve ever gotten there. That’s kind of our goal. And if we can continue to improve and keep getting after things the way we have been, I’m pretty excited about the way the end of the season could look for this team. We’re in a really good spot right now.”
Action will start at 4:00.
The Cadet girls will compete at the Clear Lake Girls Invitational. Head Coach Eric Walkingstick says there’s been a few standout performers so far.
“There have been a lot of good things that we can build upon,” Walkingstick says. “Izzy Janssen, she’s a sophomore and she had a lot of success last year. She’s done really well in indoor meets and she’s broken several records and beat her PRs and she’s been doing great. Alivia Tupper, she continues to do some really great things. Caitlyn Archer, along with a lot of different girls have really done a good job for us this year and really have stepped up. When we go to the meets, they all compete well, and we’re in contention and we do some things well, and it’s exciting for us to have that opportunity.”
Janssen has recorded top marks in the sprints and hurdles, Tupper in the throws, and Archer in the 200, 400 hurdles and high jump. The meet will start at 4:30.
