The Aplington-Parkersburg boys track & field team will be back in action at Thursday’s boys meet at Hudson, where they’ll join teams from several conferences. The team placed third at Tuesday’s Spartan Early Bird Coed at Grundy Center, their first outdoor meet of the season. The 4×800 team ran 8:29.27, which is the seventh-fastest time in Class 2A. Senior Caleb Campbell and junior Sully Janssen say the group has what it takes to make another deep run.

“It was great just coming out and competing,” Campbell says. “We’ve had a pretty long break since just the indoor, but just getting out competing, seeing everybody here is just fun to run. But yeah, it’s been a great event for us in the past few years, and I’m glad I can join the fun.”

“We’ve set pretty high expectations for ourselves this year, and it’s a race that we know this group of guys can do something special in, and that’s what we want to do this year.” Janssen says.

The meet will start at 4:30.

Coming off their first losses of the season, the soccer teams will be on the road in separate locations. The United will play at winless New Hampton at 5:00. The girls will be at Columbus Catholic at 5:30.

The boys golf team will begin its season by hosting a triangular with AGWSR and Wapsie Valley. It’ll be at Legend Trail at 4:30.

The girls tennis team will play their home opener, taking on South Hardin at 4:15 at the ARC.
