The Aplington-Parkersburg and AP/DNH soccer teams earned a home doubleheader sweep Friday, as aired on 99 The Wave. The girls beat Wright County 9-0 and the United beat Columbus Catholic 5-0.

In the girls game, the Falcons racked up six goals in the first half for a commanding start. They added three in the second half to leave no doubt, scoring their most goals in a game since 2022. Kiara Morris scored twice to lead the way. Shelby Arkulari, Elise Thome, Payten Ostercamp, Ava Onken, Olivia Peterson, Clarissa Troyna and Ciara Troyna each scored once. The Falcons (4-1) will return to action Tuesday at #1 (1A) Denver.

The United scored three times within the first 20 minutes, including two by Mason Bertram and a header shot by Preston Janssen. A long scoring drought followed, but second half goals by Jackson Mulder and Aiden Merrill sealed the win. Head Coach Perry Bernard was pleased with the strong start.

“We talked about before the game how we always kind of take that first half to warm up, and then we come out second half,” Bernard says. “We did a little bit of a change before we came out to this game. We actually scrimmaged ourselves for about half an hour, kind of got them fired up. And so we were able to come out in that first half and really attack like we should. And it definitely showed. And even in the second half, we kind of picked it up a little bit more and felt like we possessed the ball a lot and had a lot of attacks in that second half too.”

The United (4-1) will host Northeast Iowa United Monday.
