The Wright County boys soccer team with the 2025 season just underway is being guided by new leadership of Head Coach Ethan Krogman. He takes over for Head Coach Gannon Harsma who departed the program following last season (6-7). Krogman knows the program well, serving as an assistant coach the last two seasons.
Krogman on settling into his new role.
“It’s a new thing for me. It’s the first time ever, that I’ve been in a position like this. I want to compare it to opening a new gift every single day during the season. It comes with its challenges and other things but it’s all part of the experience. I’m loving every moment of it so far,” says Krogman. “I felt that my experience, all the tools that I had already gathered over the course of my career, so far through playing and coaching alike, really set me in the spot that I could be the head coach for Wright County. I plan to lead them in the direction that these boys need to be led in.”
Averaging two to three matches a week, Krogman on the team’s to-do list as the season ramps up.
“Reading the game while they’re out on the field, having players notice situations and making the best possible decision or at least the high percentage decision that will give us the best opportunity to make something happen. Additionally, we have a very young team as well, so making sure the quote unquote old guard is educating the younger kids in the lower classes from freshman and sophomore grades. So that eventually they can hand off the torch to those kids and they can keep the legacy going of Wright County soccer.”
Wright County graduated six seniors from last year’s team. Goalkeeper Jose Alfaro and defenseman William Rivera have stepped up to be team captains for this season.
Krogman on the assistance Alfaro and Rivera have provided the coaching staff and their teammates.
“Their character, their skills and just how respectable they are as young men have gone so far to help me keep composure out on the field and also help me out as a coach. They offer differing opinions as to what we should do and how things should be played. That’s why they’re our captains. They’re just the glue that holds the team together.”
Wright County (1-3-2) will be at Webster City on Monday.
