The North Butler boys golf team was the champion via tiebreaker with 178 strokes at Nashua-Plainfield Tuesday. The hosts placed second and Central Springs was third with 206. Aiden White placed 11th with 50 strokes to break the tie, finishing two strokes ahead of Nashua-Plainfield’s fifth golfer. North Butler’s Nolan Reser and Carter Backer tied for second with 42 strokes. Head Coach Todd Thompson says his veteran lineup has focused on some intricacies of the game throughout the season.
“For these guys, it’s more about golf course management,” Thompson says. “They can all hit it, they can all chip it, they can all putt it. But what happens when things don’t go well and you have that hole where par’s probably not gonna happen, so try to make a bogey out of it and not get greedy and have a miscue to make that score a little bit higher. So my focus with the guys this year is more the mental side and course management side, where to miss it, where not to miss it. At least give them an opportunity to play a hole when they don’t get a great tee shot.”
The girls placed second with 202 strokes, behind Nashua-Plainfield’s 198 and ahead of the Central Springs score of 271. Zoey Thompson and Amelia Thompson each scored a 44 to tie for second. Both teams will return to action Thursday at Rockford.
