A massive community cleanup effort at the Dumont School Building this past Saturday drew 58 volunteers and resulted in a fully cleared facility. The Revitalize Dumont Board reported all debris was removed between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., filling four dumpsters. Dumont resident and Class of 1971 alumni, Jay Allen says he’s proud of this community effort.

“The day went awesome. We started early this morning around eight o’clock. There’s a certain sense of pride that comes, especially I think for the students that went here that in the last few years had not seen the community come together, and this is actually a project that all of us could do together. We have a community need. We really need a community center here. And I think we have an opportunity now that that acquisition of the building is back in in mobile hands to do just that.”

President of the Revitalize Dumont Committee, Roger Kregel recognized key equipment contributions from five tractors with loaders from Marlin Smith, Brian Angstman, Matt Peterson, Benji Ufford, and Terry Arenholz; two skid loaders from Mark Gerdes and Tyler Swart; and a mini loader from Brad Lewis. Generators were provided by Gary Bierman and Jay Allan.

Volunteers were also supported with safety gear from Chris Showalter of Butler County Emergency Management and Mike Sawyer. Lunch and refreshments came from J&C Grocery, The Shed, Community Bowl, First Security Bank & Trust, Kwik Star, and homemade cookies from Deb Gerdes and Wendi Nederhoff.

Kregel tells RadioOnTheGo News that due to the success of Saturday’s effort, the May 3rd cleanup is canceled. Tours are on track for Dumont Sandbaggin Days.
