The #14 (2A) West Fork girls basketball team will host Sioux Central in a Class 2A Region 6 semifinal on Friday. This will be the first ever meeting between the programs in the Bound Era.

West Fork (19-3) advanced with a 64-57 regional quarterfinal win over Belmond-Klemme on Tuesday. The Warhawks defense has slowed down opponents with 15.9 steals per game while allowing an average of 36.4 points per game.

Top of Iowa Conference East Coach of the Year Rodney Huber on the selfless play of the team, leadership of Leah Weaver and the blessing it has been coaching this program.

“The great thing about this team is they’re really sharing the ball well now with each other. Leah’s averaging 16 points and averaged like 20 last year. She could score more.  I think the great thing, that has really impressed me about her game, especially since she’s come back from injury, is how much trust she’s putting in her teammates. She’s really making the right play and letting the game come to her. I think that’s elevated everybody around her, as well as the team in general,” says Huber. “I’m very blessed to coach this group and have the talent that I’ve had and the buy-in that I’ve had the last three, four, five years or however long. It’s been a pretty good ride here. Hopefully we can advance far and keep playing at a high level.”

The Warhawks average 13.5 assists per game. All-Conference First Team Honoree Leah Weaver averages 16.4 points per game. All-Conference Second Team Honoree Nehir Kanat adds 9.5 points per game.

Sioux Central (18-5) advanced with a 48-35 regional quarterfinal win over Lake Mills on Tuesday. The Rebels are also a strong defensive team allowing an average of 41.4 points per game. Avery Wilson leads with 18.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

Action begins at 7:00 p.m. in Sheffield. The winner will advance to a regional final against either Central Lyon-George Little Rock or West Lyon on Wednesday, February 26.
