The #14 (2A) West Fork girls basketball team will look to return to the state tournament for the second time in three seasons when it takes on #5 (2A) Central Lyon in Wednesday’s 2A Region 6 final. It’ll be a neutral site game at Estherville Lincoln Central, and will air on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Warhawks (20-3) have battled their way through the regional postseason and never trailed in Friday’s 67-50 home win over Sioux Central in the semifinal. They’ve won eight straight, a streak where they’ve scored 55 or more in each game. Head Coach Rodney Huber says the offense is becoming more efficient as the season progresses.

“This last five or six or seven game stretch, our offense has really started to find its comfort level, and I think the game is slowing down for them a little bit,” Huber says. “We’re running some of our sets and our motion offense really well. And of course our transition game has always been strong. So we can do a pretty good job of attacking when the other team is not set up.”

Central Lyon (18-4) will look to advance to its fourth straight state tournament. After an overtime win over Emmetsburg in the first round of the playoffs, they thoroughly beat West Lyon 65-45 in Friday’s semifinal. That night, they shot a sizzling 60 percent and were active defensively with 12 steals. Aubrey Metzger scores 18.1 points per game on 72 percent shooting for the season, a field goal percentage that leads Iowa.

Coverage will start at 6:40 p.m., followed by the tipoff at 7:00.
