The Hampton-Dumont-CAL girls basketball team recently finished one of the best seasons in program history, falling one win short of a state tournament appearance.

A dedicated group of five seniors led the charge, four of whom played varsity minutes all four years. Head Coach Miranda Stafford says their progression is remarkable, going from five wins in their sophomore season to 21 in their senior season.

“I can’t put into words how much they mean to me and this program,” Stafford says. “There aren’t a whole lot of teams that can say that they walked away with 21 wins, especially after coming off of five wins as sophomores and a 500 season their junior year. It’s not like they had success all four years. And that’s what we talked about, they truly had to work to get here. They had to dig in, they had to like one another, they had to work hard, they had to do the things that weren’t fun, and they did that. To be this close, this close to a conference championship, this close to a state berth, it’s hard for them, but in the years to come, they’ll look back and they’ll reflect on how good they were.”

The senior class included Lily Hambly, Kenzie Moorehead, Charlee Morton, Brooklyn Valley and Jordan Valley.

The team went 21-3.
