The Aplington-Parkersburg girls basketball team had its season close in a regional semifinal at #7 (2A) Denver, and the careers of an impactful group of seniors came to a close. Quinnlyn Schultz, Emma Wolff and Peyton Klooster each played key roles throughout their careers.
A four-year varsity player and three-year starter, Schultz took on the point guard duties at a high level this season, according to Head Coach Brady Driscol.
“Quinnlyn’s been out there quite a bit with the ball in her hands over the course of the last few years,” Driscol says. “So it wasn’t anything too new for her, but she really took on the point guard role of finding others in the half court transition. She was a big time pass first kid, set others up very, very well this year compared to some other years. Not saying she didn’t do it those years, but really, really did a nice job with it this year. And I think her assist numbers will show that. She had a really, really good assist-to-turnover ratio. So took care of the ball.”
Schultz led the NICL with 5.5 assists per game and was second in the league with 3.9 steals per game.
Driscol says Wolff stepped into a larger role in her first season of consistently being in the starting lineup.
“Same thing, her assist-to-turnover ratio was very good,” Driscol says. “She stepped into a starting role for us this year. Does a lot of good things for us on both ends of the floor. But a really good communicator, really good defender. If we gamble somewhere, she’s usually one to fill in and hold it down for us. She’s a really good glue kid for us on the floor, and we want her on the floor a lot.”
Starting for the second season, Klooster had her best scoring season with 11.7 points per game.
“Peyton I think had definitely her best year of her career,” Driscol says. “Especially going down the stretch there where that game against Waverly-Shell Rock where she had 26 or so and then North Butler next night was 24. And was efficient. She really came on strong from last year. I think she had a really, really solid year, and I’m proud of all three of them for their efforts.”
The Falcons went 15-8 and 4-4 in the NICL-Central.
