The AP-GC boys wrestling team recently concluded a strong season with five state qualifiers.

Two years removed from having no state qualifiers, the five qualifiers in 2024 was among the most in a season in program history. Junior Carter Liston, freshman Gage Miller, freshman Maison Copp and junior Jesse Brouwer did not place at the state tournament, but Head Coach Joel Reints says all four can help take the program to the next level in coming seasons.

“That experience is going to go a long way for those kids in the future. Two of them are freshmen and two juniors. So really excited for their opportunity to come back as seniors and sophomores to make another run at the state tournament. This experience is going to be very valuable for them in the future.”

Senior Trent Cakerice placed seventh at 285, and was the program’s first state placewinner since Hunter Maitland in 2018.

“I’m just so proud of him, of what he’s accomplished this year. And to have an opportunity to place it at the arguably the toughest date tournament in all of sports, it’s an awesome feeling for him.”

AP-GC went 14-6 in duals and placed fifth in the NICL Tournament.
