Dike-New Hartford junior Izzy Norton

The girls tennis team defeated Aplington-Parkersburg 7-2 at home. The Wolverines won in all but #1 singles and #2 doubles. #2 singles player Izzy Norton won 8-4, and says the team has rebuilt nicely.

“We lost a lot last year so everyone just stepped up and filled in spots and everyone’s doing just working hard every day at practice,” Norton says. “Then we go and lift after practices and everyone works hard in there too so it just shows on the court, all the hard work we put in.”

Head Coach Reegan Zinkula on the undefeated start.

“Already this season, we’re building that confidence,” Zinkula says. “We started out with Charles City last week Thursday and got a 7-2 win and then we had Independence on Friday and won 9-0, then tonight against AP, who’s always great competition for us, that 7-2 win I think really helped build the confidence of the girls as well. Things are starting to connect. We’re starting to place the ball, we’re starting to hit it harder. Things are really coming together for us as a team.”

DNH will be at Webster City Thursday.
