Mason City man dies in a wrong way crash

Saturday around 11:20pm the Clear Lake Police Department received numerous 911 calls about a passenger car traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 around mile marker 193. A short time later, additional callers reported that a vehicle had struck a semi-tractor trailer head-on in the southbound lanes.

56-year-old Glen Evan Hemming of Mason City was driving a 2008 Chevy Cobalt northbound in the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 when he struck the semi driven by 40-year-old Hussein Ali Haidar of Burnsville, Minnesota.

Hemming died from injuries sustained in the accident. Haidar was not injured, but his semi received disabling damage.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 35 were closed for nearly four hours.
