NICL Boys Golf Tournament happening Friday

The North Iowa Cedar League boys golf tournament will be Friday at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls. It was originally scheduled for Thursday, but moved due to rain.

The meet will include several state tournament contenders, including reigning champion Grundy Center. Aplington-Parkersburg coach Gary Flanigan says it’s a stacked meet.

“The last two state champs came out of the NICL,” Flanigan says. “And quite honestly, you can go back to about the last 10 years where our conference and then our conference is using our district final as well. You just got to get lucky to get through, I guess, or play good enough that day. But you know, on a given day, any one of the five, seven teams could win this, but you just hope it’s your day.”

The Falcons were last year’s conference champions. Grundy Center’s Judd Jirovsky is the reigning individual champion. The teams will play 18 holes beginning at 9:30 a.m.
