The seafood chain, Red Lobster, abruptly closed over 90 of their restaurants, including Waterloo, Ia. Red Lobster had been losing money for years. Customers have noted a decline in quality since the 2010s. Their parent company, Thai Union Group, which was the leading providers of shrimp, had the genius idea of taking the chains popular promo Endless Shrimp and making it a permanent menu item to garner more traffic. Well, people like a good deal but aren’t going to waste money on cocktails like they may have in the past. The promo got people in the door but just for the shrimps. They ended up with an $11 million loss in the 3rd quarter. By November of 2023, they had a $20 million loss. I have a great idea for Red Lobster. Since we are in the middle of a great emergence, Red Lobster could switch from endless shrimp to endless cicadas. This may be a more cost effective solution.
