The Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys soccer will take on #4(2A) Webster City in a marquee third meeting this season in a 2A Substate 2 semifinal on Monday. The Bulldogs began the postseason with a 7-0 first round win over South Tama on Monday, May 13th. Senior Boyan Roussev had a stellar final match on home field netting four goals. Bulldogs junior goalkeeper Jose Aragon has been a steady defender with a 88.4% save percentage. Webster City won both regular season meetings and the Bulldogs will be on the chase for their first win over the Lynx since 2019.
Head Coach Danielle Arana says ball movement and working on player roles were part of preparation for the rematch.
“We’re struggling to score against them, so working to move the ball around their defense is something that we’re definitely working on,” says Arana. “We’ve also noticed in the past couple of weeks that we found better ways to utilize some of our players. We really have been practicing getting the ball moving around a little bit more, to be able to get those shots and to support each other a little bit better and hopefully hold off the shots from Webster. As long as we stay strong, healthy and play our hardest we have a good chance of getting past them as well.”
The match will air on 104.9 KLMJ with pregame at 5:20 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 5:30 p.m. in Webster City.
The HD-CAL baseball team on the hunt for first win will host Mason City to begin a four game week on Monday night. In the early running Brody Robertson leads on the mound with a 3.50 ERA and eight strikeouts. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
