The #7 (2A) AP/DNH boys soccer team was dominant in its postseason opener, defeating West Delaware 9-1 at home Monday, a 2A substate semifinal game that aired on 99 The Wave.

The United scored early and often in the first half, and led 5-0 at halftime. The Hawks got on the board with a penalty kick in the second half, but never threatened as AP/DNH built an insurmountable lead. Ty Luhring scored three goals and Walker Weedman scored twice. Head Coach Perry Bernard says the offense found its rhythm at the right times.

“We weren’t the cleanest, but we kind of came together at times and when we needed to get it done, they got it done,” Bernard says. “I’m pretty proud of them. Like I said, West Delaware, they did a great job. So, we’ve got our work cut out for us. I guess we’re going to play CPU Wednesday. And so yeah, we’re going to do some serious preparing tomorrow for that game.”

AP/DNH is 14-4. They’ll host Center Point-Urbana in a substate final Wednesday in New Hartford. The winner of that game will advance to the Class 2A state tournament.
